What Is an Underpad?
An underpad, also known as a disposable bed pad or incontinence pad, is a non-diaper sanitary product designed to keep surfaces clean and dry. It is made from multiple layers of protective materials such as PE film, non-woven fabric, fluff pulp, and super absorbent polymer (SAP).
Unlike diapers, underpads are placed directly under the patient or user to absorb fluids and prevent contamination of bedding or medical equipment. They are widely used in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, maternity care, and home health care settings.
Why Underpads Are Important
During urology, obstetrics, and gynecology procedures, patients are often exposed to blood, body fluids, and irrigation solutions. Prolonged skin moisture can lead to discomfort, irritation, or infection.
Traditional cotton sheets absorb poorly and are difficult to clean, while low-quality non-woven pads lack adequate absorbency and breathability. That’s why disposable medical underpads have become essential — they are hygienic, highly absorbent, and reduce the risk of cross-contamination in medical environments.

Composition and Structure
-
Top Layer: Soft, breathable non-woven fabric that quickly wicks away moisture to keep the surface dry and comfortable.
-
Absorbent Core: Made of imported fluff pulp and super absorbent polymer (SAP) for superior liquid absorption.
-
Bottom Layer: Waterproof PE film that prevents leakage and protects the bed or examination table.
This three-layer design ensures excellent fluid retention while allowing air to circulate, minimizing skin irritation and maintaining comfort.
How to Use Disposable Underpads
-
Unfold the underpad and place it flat on the bed, chair, or examination surface.
-
Position it under the patient or area needing protection.
-
After use, discard the pad and replace it with a new one to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.
Disposable underpads are single-use products and should not be reused to avoid cross-contamination.
