How to Use a CPR First Aid Mask

A CPR first aid mask, also known as a CPR face shield or resuscitation mask, is an essential tool for performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) safely and effectively. It serves as a barrier between the rescuer and the patient, helping prevent direct contact with the patient’s mouth or nose while providing lifesaving ventilation.

Because of its transparent design, rescuers can easily observe the patient’s lip color and check for vomit or airway obstruction. If needed, oxygen can also be connected through the mask.
Compact and lightweight, this CPR pocket mask fits easily into a first aid kit or pocket—making it an indispensable piece of equipment for emergency responders, first aid trainers, and medical professionals.

Features

  1. One-Way Valve with Filter
The mask is equipped with a high-quality one-way valve that prevents backflow and protects rescuers from infection during artificial respiration.

  2. Safe and Hygienic
There’s no need for direct contact with the patient’s mouth or face, greatly reducing the risk of cross-contamination.

  3. Clear, Transparent Mask
The transparent shell lets rescuers monitor the patient’s lips and airway status while performing CPR.

  4. Oxygen Supply Port
The mask includes an oxygen inlet, allowing supplemental oxygen to be provided when necessary.

  5. Reusable Mask, Disposable Valve
The silicone mask can be cleaned and reused. The one-way valve, however, is designed for single use to ensure hygiene and safety.

  6. Compatible with Resuscitators
After removing the valve, the mask can be easily attached to a manual resuscitator (Ambu bag) or other breathing devices.

How to Use a CPR Mask

  1. Mouth-to-Mouth Breathing
For non-professionals, this is the simplest and most common method. The rescuer breathes directly into the patient’s lungs to provide oxygen.

  2. Mouth-to-Nose Breathing
If the patient’s mouth cannot be sealed properly (for example, in cases of facial injury or drowning), mouth-to-nose breathing is recommended.

  3. Mouth-to-Mask Breathing
Place the CPR mask securely over the patient’s mouth and nose, ensuring there’s no air leakage. Take a deep breath and blow through the valve port. The one-way valve keeps airflow moving in one direction for safety.

  4. Bag-Valve-Mask (BVM) Ventilation
If available, connect the mask to a manual resuscitator or Ambu bag to deliver controlled breaths.

  5. Tracheal Intubation (for Professionals)
In advanced medical settings, patients may be intubated and connected to a respirator for continuous ventilation.
